Hotelwithheart.com Donates Clothes, Toys and Food to Dynamic Teen Company.

PHILIPPINES, 8 January 2011 — Last November 2010, Hotelwithheart.com (HWH) appealed to its guests for donations of brand new and old clothes and toys. This project was overwhelmingly supported and led to the sending of boxes of clothes, toys and books from Singapore to the Philippines. Although, it was initially an HWH’s Christmas project, donations from guests kept pouring in way after the Christmas holidays.

On 8 January 2011, Hotelwithheart.com’s staff and volunteers went to Cavite City and donated to Dynamic Teen Company (DTC) boxes of children’s clothes, stuff toys, books, biscuits and juice drinks. DTC was represented by its president, Miss Alexandra Oliva and Miss Michelle Cataulin, secretary of Mr. Efren Penaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero of the Year and founder of DTC.

Since 1997, DTC with it’s more than 12,000 teenage volunteers have taught basic reading and writing skills to children living on the streets. They were able to accomplish this using mobile “pushcart classrooms”, carts loaded with books, chalkboards and other supplies.

“The duplication of the pushcart school system… is happening now in different provinces and regions of the country, and we receive numerous letters from other parts of the world,” Penaflorida said. “Filipinos have become more aware of the need for these children to be educated, fed and taken care of. Before, they saw [a pushcart] as a symbol of poverty, but now they see a pushcart as a symbol of hope and education.”
